K.D Jewellery is a small home-based business in South Devon which began in 2013.
My name is Kirsty and I am the owner/designer of K.D Jewellery. I am 28 years old and live in Newton Abbot in Devon with my family. I have been married to my wonderful husband for almost four years and, between us, we have five children.
I've always been a creative person even when I was little (who knew you could make so many things from junk?!). Over the years I've dabbled in a variety of different crafts, but I'd never considered turning my hand to jewellery until a few years ago, when I was in search of a bracelet... I knew exactly what I wanted but couldn't find anything that was just right so, being a bit fussy, I decided to purchase the materials and try to make it myself! That was when I discovered macramé. I started out with very simple designs but the more I practised the more I felt confident to expand. The intricacy and technicality of micro-macramé fascinates me and, even now, I still find it amazing that such beautiful things can be created just from a series of knots! I still have a long way to go when it comes to learning new techniques and expanding my current collections but the 'story' of how K.D Jewellery began is a simple one... I found something that I simply love to do!

K.D Jewellery was accepted by the Professional Crafters Guild in July 2014.
The Guild itself was established in 2011 to help Professional Crafters show that they mean business and that crafting is not 'just a hobby'. It aims to raise awareness of the beautiful handmade crafts which are available from people who have a passion for crafting and keep this skill very much alive in contemporary society. The Guild also provides a directory of crafters so that they can find each other and be found by the general public. You can browse the members directory here.
In June 2015, Kirsty was invited to become a Committee Member of the Professional Crafter's Guild and has since been involved with their both their Content and Networking Teams, across a variety of social media platforms - look out for #AdminDiamond!
This year, K.D Jewellery was officially named the #QueenOf Macramé Jewellery on Twitter by the wonderful people over at The Royal Connection. I am incredibly proud to have been chosen and am loving my fabulous winner's badge, which I am (probably annoyingly!) using everywhere that I can! A big thank you to Andy Quinn and Dylan Moore at Aqua Design Group and also to everyone who has supported my business following this achievement!
For those of you that aren't familiar with it, The Royal Connection competition, which is hosted on Twitter, gives small business the opportunity to be named #KingOf or #QueenOf their particular industry.
